Found these on the USC Digital Archive, dated 1920 and 1918. There are quite a few pictures of the first two men, Charles Lee and Jason (Hahn Chang-Ho), but searching the net for a back story has turned up fruitless. Looks like a case for The Vintagent.

It’s as if Optimus Prime had a gnar acid trip and went crazy at the local vintage/costume shop.  However humorous and extravagant, it is a legitimate scene in Japan, complete with a supported industry and fan base.  I mean shit, look at the amount of work put into one vehicle.
